Farewell

As I sit on a plane headed from Memphis back to my home in Raleigh, I stared at this screen for a while; wondering where to begin with this post…

In July I started traveling for work. You can read all about that journey here and here. From the beginning, traveling was hard on Mario, Maddie and I, but Mario and I decided we should give it a full six months to try to get use to it and make it work. Then, a few months into the journey we found out we were expecting our second baby. Exciting right?! Right! We immediately started to discuss the travel situation and talked about what to do constantly.

Eventually, we decided it was best that I leave my job. It was a hard decision; one I’ve cried about but knew was right. We discussed me going back to being a stay at home mom and had planned to go that route if I couldn’t find another job by the end of the year. But, I reached out to my contacts and within a week I heard something back, scheduled an interview, and had an offer in my inbox shortly after. So quick. So blessed.

Side note: I’m telling you guys, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know…and you better work your butt off so that the contacts you’ve made won’t hesitate to hire you because they know and respect your work ethic!

My last day in my current role is tomorrow, and I plan to work hard as if I’ll be seeing these folks on Monday. I don’t believe in burning bridges and even though no job or employer is perfect, overall I’ve had a good experience. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I’ve learned and how much my career has grown over the past two years. I believe that I could have gone far with this company but I have no regrets about putting my family ahead of my career.  This post, Why I’m a Working Mom Not Trying to Have it Allis a very good one that I’ve recently read that truly verbalized my inner thoughts on this.

To the coworkers turned friends that I’ve met along the way — I couldn’t be more grateful to have you in my life, and I pray that the ending of our work relationship will have no bearing on the friendship we’ve built. I know for certain that one of the reasons this job was meant for this season of my life is because of the people I was meant to meet. I’ve grown and learned so much about myself and a lot of that is due to the folks I’ve come to love who have added so much to my life just by being a part of it. May you remember that I’m just a text, call, email or lunch date away, my friends!

Now, I plan to spend the next two weeks at home resting. After spending my first trimester, one laced with sickness and fatigue while on the road, without once calling in pregnant I so deserve some time off.  I plan to sleep and clean and bake and nest like only a pregnant person could! I start my new job on the 4th and I must admit I’m excited about the opportunity and how well it all came together in the best interest of my family. I can’t help but thank God for His many blessings and how He always works things out for my good. I am beyond blessed and oh so highly favored, and despite the trials and tribulations that I’ve faced throughout my life, I can honestly say that I’ve been living a great one.

2015 has been incredibly full, and I’m anxiously looking forward to an amazing 2016; a year that’s sure to be just as good as 2012, my best year to date!

As always, find joy,
