This Morning

I made breakfast this morning and I couldn’t feel more blessed! Let me explain…

For weeks I’ve been struggling to get up and get to work on time. Stru-ga-ling!!! The transition to a working mom has not been without its trials and tribulations, if I can call it that without sounding too dramatic. I had gotten use to waking up when Maddie wakes up and that was typically after 7am, Lord bless her for it ;).

Now, we have to leave the house by 7am if there is any hope of me getting to work on time. Any hope, I tell you. Even that is pushing it, if I’m honest, because it doesn’t leave room for an accident occurring that typically turns the highway into a parking lot around here, but let’s stick to the story…

The past few days (over a week) I’ve been using the hashtag #morediscipline when I arise and I post something (usually on Twitter).  A fellow tweep, @BeingMrsMom (thanks, Lady), suggested I do this for accountability purposes and boy hasn’t it worked. But, it’s been more than just doing that. I’ve had to pray for more discipline; despite how scary a request like that to God can be (you really have to be careful what you ask for). I truly feel like He’s helping me get there gradually. Today, I felt so blessed because I was able to accomplish so much this morning by being more disciplined. I want my routine to start at 5am; however, today it started at 5:30am (once I actually got up)…baby steps, my friends, baby steps! This is how this morning looked:

  • 5am: Wake up.
  • 5:30am: Get up, read His word (including #shereadstruth and #lampandlight).
  • 6am: Get myself/Maddie dressed (prepping everything the night before is key to making this quick).

Maddie requested pancakes for breakfast while I was getting her dressed. The nerve!…So pancakes, and eggs, she got!

  • 6:30am: Make breakfast. Sit down and eat (this is huge)!
  • 7am. Leave for daycare/work.
  • 7:55: At work with minutes to spare!

Again, it’s only been a few days, really, but I’m refusing to minimize the work that God is doing in me. One day at a time. Just to get up and get into His word and go through my morning without rushing, spending time and eating breakfast and talking to my girl…again I say, I feel blessed!

Thank you, Lord, for the little-big things!

Be happy,

I have been struggling with getting up in the morning too. I have no excuse except for sleeping issues!! I love that 30 minute lag time between wake up and get up. I hit snooze 3x so I am often out of bed about 30 minutes after the first wake up call!!

I know the struggle of being a working mom! My two boys don't make mornings simple either! Im so glad you are turning to the Word! It helps! But you are right, prep the night before makes a world of difference!! Hang in there it gets easier!
