I’ve Got a New Attitude!

Hello new ‘do…

For weeks now I’ve been saying “I want to get my hair cut, I want to get my hair cut, I want to get my hair cut!!!”

I don’t think people believed me.

Now, my husband was a bit concerned.  I’ve had some issues with damaged hair for quite some time now and I went natural (no relaxer, i.e. chemicals to straighten my hair) exactly two years ago (Aug 2011) thinking that would solve those issues with breakage.  But it didn’t. I ended up having to wear my hair in the style you see below practically everyday to hide the damage!  Might as well go back to what you know. Hence, the “relaxed” look above.

Before Look (no relaxer) | My Mommy

Before I left the house for the cut yesterday my husband gave me a little talk in regards to his fears about me getting a relaxer and especially about me going short. It was cute and sweet but I assured him it would be just fine.  You see, for as long as I can remember my mom always, always, ALWAYS wore her hair short. Being that I am an exact ‘replica’ of my mom (seriously folks, it’s scary but I love it – see above), I already knew that a short look would look cu-ute on me!

Now, before you go all Beyonce’ on me (check out her short ‘do here), she was NOT my inspiration although I really love her cut. It puts me in the mind of Charlize Theron’s pixie cut, which I adore.  But no, I took the following pictures with me to the salon for inspiration…

I wasn’t attempting to look like them at all actually (that’s silly), I just wanted the stylist to know that I wanted it short, short in the back with a little something in the front.  They all look so different yet fierce and gorgeous…exactly how this cut has made me feel.  And please note, this was my first time going to this salon, Practicality Hair and Day Spa, but I knew they’d be on point since they style my bestie, Mionna’s hair regularly.

And boy didn’t they deliver!!!

Long hair, short hair, I’m cute either way (ask my husband) but I must admit, I feel sexier and more confident already and it hasn’t even been a full day.  It just feels like a womanly cut.  Like a coming of age! Like 30s…here I come!!! I’ve definitely been enjoying my life as a wife, mom and homemaker and I’ve just got a feeling that my best years are still yet to come and quite frankly, I think they’re right around the corner!

Are you feeling my new ‘do, too?!?

I looooove it! It looks so good on you! And don't feel bad about getting a relaxer again. Do whatever works for you because if you look good you feel good! And if you feel sexy then that's the style you should rock! Looks great!

Thanks so much, Rachelle! And girl, I have no intentions of feeling bad or letting the naturals (lol) make me feel bad! I'm too happy with this look for that :)!

Girl, I can't even begin to express how much I'm feeling this style on me. I totally agree that short it's my signature look. I don't know why I've never tried it all these years…wait, yes I do, I didn't think my face had the right frame for it. But I was SO wrong. I LOVE IT!!! And yes, I was telling Mionna while they were cutting it that it was going to make me look even more like Mommy since she always wore her hair short and it definitely did! Missing her like crazy (especially lately)!

Bold move!!! It's really cute. I'm way too chicken to cut my hair right now but every time I see a bob I want to do it.

Indeed, Cece! I'm incredibly happy with how it turned out. I've been contemplating for months now so I get the fear (especially considering how long it can take to grow back if you don't like it). Luckily, I'm totally in love with it!

I'll keep my eye out for cut…do it :)!!!

I love it!! And what's so funnl is that I have that SAME pic of Rihanna as a template whenever I want to go short ( which is after every baby):) I've been on a mission for a while to get my hair done since it is also very damaged.I wish that you would've taken me with you. I'm hoping to go tomorrow. It will be so awesome if we get to meet one day bc we have soo much in common! Thanks for sharing!

    • August 17, 2013 / 2:47 pm

Ha, that's so neat, Krissy! Rihanna definitely knows how to rock a short cut. I had several of her at first then finally settled on this one and the other two ladies. Most people wanted me to continue to grow my hair and just have the damaged areas treated and cared for properly but I just wasn't into that. I'm certain my hair will be so much healthier and grow back better this way so I say go for it! I'm looking into going to at least one blogging conference next year so if you're interested hopefully we can find one that's doable for us both!

Love this on you! I had the Rihanna cut for a year, but I've grown it out. I miss my short hair some days.

    • August 17, 2013 / 9:44 pm

Girl, Rihanna definitely knows how to wear a short cut! Although I'm sure I'll grow it back out as well I'm really loving this look! Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the compliment!
