Nursery Organization & Ideas…

We’re talking all things pre- and post-baby on Friday for the next couple of weeks, through the Preparing for a Little One link-up series being hosted by Kaitlyn and Jennifer.

Today’s topic:  Nursery Organization & Ideas!

We actually set-up Maddie’s nursery on Christmas morning and it felt like opening up gifts as we opened each box to assemble everything!  We had SO much fun!!! When it came to organizing her room I knew that I wanted some sort of cubby holes throughout different pieces of furniture so that I could fill them with baskets full of necessities for easy accessibility.

The changing table (from Target) that came with her crib and the tall chest (partially pictured above from Rooms-to-Go) were just what I was looking for!  I found the baskets to fill the spaces at Bed, Bath and Beyond!

A few simple thoughts / ideas:

  • If possible, include a picture or mobile on the wall near / or above the changing table to distract the little one when applying lotion, dressing and diaper changing time.  We’ve placed Madison’s next to a widow.
  • If you have a choice between a rocking chair / rocker or a recliner, choose the recliner.  It will be a lifesaver if you decide to breastfeed (or not)…the main thing is that it not just rocks it also reclines (obvious, I know), but that feature can really come in handy in the early days!
  • Quite often you’ll have baby in hand so make sure items are easily accessible, as mentioned above, so that you are still able to get to the necessities with just one hand!
  • Keep a set of wipes / diapers in the area that you plan to be the most.  For example, we spend the majority of our time in the living room but Maddie’s room is upstairs…need I say more!
For more ideas take a quick peek inside the nursery for a full walk-through of my thought process when organizing Madison’s room!  If you’d like to participate in the coming weeks the topics are as follows, so be sure to link up with Kaitlyn and Jennifer:

Recliners are great for patios and other outdoor spaces too. You can decide whether to keep them upright or reclined depending. And just like the indoor versions, outdoor recliners come in many different styles and materials.
