A Peek Inside: The Guest Room

When we first looked at our house I loved the master suite but complained about how small the other bedrooms were.  Especially the guest bedroom since I knew we’d be putting a queen size bed from my apartment into that tiny little space.  I wasn’t sure how I was going to make that work and didn’t even try at first.  I just threw an old spread on the bed and called it a day.  Doesn’t it look so sad and uninviting…

Before

Eventually I got tired of it looking this way and finally did something about it! I started with the bed and built the room around it.  I wanted it to have a hotel-like feel for our guests. I also wanted the room to feel welcoming and relaxing but most importantly, bright and airy! I think I’ve accomplished just that…

After
Target – Duvet Cover / Sham / Sheets / Flower Pillow / Towels / Cloths

HomeGoods – Lamp / Nightstand / Wall Art / Curtains / White Dish (on nightstand)
Bed, Bath & Beyond – Rectangular Pillow

To keep from having to store yet another blanket I chose a duvet cover.  I love those things!

So the spread that you see in the before picture is also there in the after…neat!

I got the pillows on two separate occasions a few weeks after buying the duvet cover.  The round flower pillow was just too adorable and a must buy.  When I saw the rectangular pillow it just screamed guest room in an off sort of way.  Plus it was on sale and I had a coupon (yay me!) so I was going to make it work somewhere in the house!  It totally works here and, in my opinion, actually ties everything together!

When I saw this lamp I just had to have it but there was only one (it’s so beautiful at night and compliments the duvet cover nicely). When I saw the pair of nightstands I just had to have them too but I was on a budget, of course. Quite the dilemma right?!? So I got the lamp and one nightstand, duh Nicole (I know no one says that any more, but whatever), the room is small.  It ended up being perfect :)!  I then filled it with a couple of towels, wash cloths and soap for the guest(s).

My hubby always knows how to score some points with me.  When I revealed the room to him he goes…”Babe, you did a really great job with this room, you should do this for a living!”  Awww, isn’t he sweet?  But he’s definitely reaching with that one…you’ve got to love a man who compliments like that though :)!

I consider this room complete with the exception of the closet.  I think if I were to add anything else to the actual room I would run the risk of crowding the space.  Therefore, I plan to transform the closet by removing the doors and adding a small desk for my sewing machine / crafts and mount a small flat screen TV.  I can’t wait to get started and reveal that project…so stay tuned!!!

Soooo, my guest room looks a lot like your Before shot. I've been neglecting that poor, tiny space. This might be just the inspiration I need to pretty it up. LOVE the duvet and the pops of orangey red. You definitely created a fresh, classy space!
