In Remembrance…

Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that occurs when lymphocytes–white blood cells that help protect the body from infection and disease–begin behaving abnormally. Abnormal lymphocytes may divide faster than normal cells or they may live longer than they should.  Lymphoma may develop in many parts of the body, including the lymph nodes, spleen, bone marrow, blood or other organs.  There are two main types of lymphomas, Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).

In August 2011 my mother was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Burkitt’s Lymphoma.  It claimed her life within two months.  Today marks a year since her passing: yet all of a sudden it feels like yesterday and every detail of that day has been brought back to my remembrance, especially having to let her go.  I believe she suffered more in those two months of her life than anyone could ever fathom but she fought with a strength that I will revere for the rest of my life.

Although I know that she is in a better place, free of pain and sorrow, I am still completely and utterly overwhelmed with grief and emotion.  But, I will lift my head and smile on today with the strength she instilled in me.  l will remember all of our sweet memories and today, I will celebrate and honor her life!

The Lime Green Ribbon is the ribbon used for Lymphoma Cancer Awareness.  Today, my family and I will wear ribbons in honor of our beloved Mother, Sister, Daughter, Aunt and Grandmother, Sharon Lynn Sanders…

Once again I ask that you continue to pray for me and my family that He may keep us all in perfect peace!

My goodness Kerwinda, your words have truly touched my heart on today! Only someone who has lost an incredible mother can possibly understand what a day like today is like. You've reminded me that I am like her in so MANY ways. I too recognize that time will not heal this wound but I pray that God continues to make it bearable for me and my family and for you and yours. I love you so much too!!!
