Registering for a little one…

Sorry folks, we aren’t pregnant 🙂 although I thought I was for just a second last month…

But, the oh so kind, Kaitlyn at Wifessionals (you should hear how I pronounce this all wrong) and Jennifer at Five 27 Jones have started a neat series called Preparing for a Little One, where soon-to-be moms, first time moms, etc. get to share their thoughts on pre- and post-baby activities!

As a first time mom, I figured I’d join in and share my thoughts each week and hopefully help someone along the way.  This week is all about Registering!

                Target Registry {via}                  Buy Buy Baby Registry {via}                   Babies R Us Registry {via}

First and foremost, I highly recommend registering for a new baby online!

I never hear this mentioned and it makes your life SO much easier, in my opinion.  I understand that some may want to do it in-store for the experience and that’s perfectly fine, but by the time I got around to registering I was good and pregnant and good and tired (still commuting an hour each way, still working 40 hrs, still crock-potting it for the honey…still PREGNANT).

I knew I wouldn’t have enough energy to make it through the store and I didn’t want to rush through it because I was too tired.  So, I did all of my registries (Target, Buy Buy Baby and Babies R Us) online and was able to take my time and truly enjoy it!

Now, instead of listing the obvious must have items I’ll list a few things to keep in mind when registering…

Diapers – They are not all created equal so you may have to see what works on the little one best before you go crazy adding twenty boxes of one particular brand to the list.
Nipples – We’re not talking about your nipples here but the ones for the bottles.  The bottles themselves don’t really matter, so long as they are BPA free, it’s the nipple that can trip a baby up, especially if you plan to breastfeed so do some research to find some that are comparable to the real deal!
Breast Pump – These things are expensive but you need a good one! I spent over $300 for a Medela model and the charger fell apart on me about 6 months in, the same thing happened to one of my friends.  The pump itself is great, the charger, not so much!
Diaper Bag – Don’t skimp on your diaper bag, it will become your new purse.  So, get a cute one but make sure it’s fully functional and spacious.  My diaper bag has a built in, but removable, changing pad that’s pretty freakin’ awesome and I get asked about it EVERYwhere I go and I’m not getting paid to say this folks! But seriously, I have the exact diaper bag below, color and all, you can find it {here}! And no I don’t use and have removed the backpack straps!

Lastly, there were only two things that I bought / received that I found unnecessary…

Wipe warmer – Madison had the same reaction, or should I say no reaction, to a warm or cold wipe!
Diaper Pail – A regular trash can with a lid will do b/c over time the pail no longer blocks out the poo smell, no matter how cute the owner of that smell may be.  I little baking soda in the pail may help but we’ve gotten to the point where we take all smelly diapers outside each day…hey, it’s usually only once / day!

So that’s that…I think I’ve said plenty and hopefully you’ve found some of this information helpful, if not interesting!  If you’d like to participate in the coming weeks the topics are as follows, so be sure to link up with Kaitlyn and Jennifer:

Friday, April 12: Nursery Organization & Ideas
Friday, April 19: Packing for the Hospital, for you & for baby

I feel so out of place in most of these blogs that mention mom. I've never had a kid of my own. But I had to take care of one for 7 yrs and then her dad decided he didnt want to be part of my life anymore and it hurt the kid and not to mention me. It sucks.

Stopping by from the link-up! I'm due in a few weeks and splurged on the Petunia Pickle Bottom bag… glad to hear from someone who has it that it's worth the $$.

    Stop by!

It certainly is, Sara! You're going to love it even more once you put it to use! My husband was not too happy about me spending so much on a diaper bag but after seeing me in action with it he finally gets it!

We aren't planning on having kids for at least another 5+ years. But, I get totally jealous over diaper bags! lol They have some incredibly cute ones out there!

That's hilarious, Jane! If it makes you feel any better I get jealous when I see women with cute purses since all of mine are now tucked away until a diaper bag is no longer needed!
