I'm Addicted...

My name is Nicole, and I'm addicted to Sugar!
{via}

Lately, I've been craving sweets more than usual. It's to the point where all I want to do is eat sweets. I'll even eat a meal rather quickly just so I can get to dessert. This is a major problem! Especially considering that I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with Maddie. This means that I am now at risk for developing Type II diabetes, I even have to get tested for diabetes every 3 years now as a precaution (at least that's what's recommended).

With that said, I need to do something about my addiction to sweets now, so that it doesn't turn into a major problem that I'm forced to do something about later. Besides, I know once I eliminate sugars, or at least reduce my intake, I'll see significant improvements in how I feel and I'll see results from my workouts that much quicker too.

The problem is where and how to start.  I've been doing an abundance of research trying to determine how to tackle this obsession.  I'm definitely planning to do the No Sugar Added Challenge being hosted by Dani at Fitness, Food and Style (February 1st - February 14th) and I'm thinking about reading, I Quit Sugar.  But we'll see where all this leads me and I'll be sure to post about how I'm doing with the challenge, of course.

I know I can't be the only one dealing with this, so I hope!  Therefore, any help or advice you can give on how to overcome my sugar addiction would be greatly appreciated!

Oh, yeah, be sure to stop by TOMORROW for the
Kindle Fire Giveaway.

  1. Oh dear O.O My dad has diabetes but he is fond of sweets and our traditional sweets are dangerously heavy. I wish you luck for leaving your addiction :)

  2. I'm pretty much addicted to sugar as well.

    And you'll hate me for this...but I have no tips for you. I'm not really sure I want to give up the sweets :-)

    Ok...that's not true..I do want to cut back some, and now that I'm thinking of it..let me tell you what I did yesterday. I was craving something sweet, and almost went for a cookie, but instead grabbed an orange, cut it open, and it seriously cured my craving.

  4. Not sure if this will help...but anytime I absolutely crave sweets or food (between meals) I eat a spoonful of peanut butter and it will hold me over until my next meal.

  5. Oh, I wish I could help!
    I'm not really big on sweets (give me salty and I am ALL over it!)...but I do know that if I want something chocolately or sweet, I eat one Hersey's Kiss or something similar. It satisfies the craving without me going nuts and eating the whole bag!

    Not sure if that helps, but I wish you the best of luck with kicking sugar!

  6. I'm absolutely addicted to sweets!! Basically when I started to try and quit, I used a small piece of hard tack candy after dinner to satisfy the sweet tooth. I did this for a week or so and then stopped having them cold turkey. I am proud to say though that in the past 4 weeks I have had sweets 1 time, that is a MAJOR accomplishment for me. It's hard for me though because any holiday can start the obsession back up again. Like Valentine's and Easter around the corner...must stay strong ;)

    I'm off to check out the No Sugar Added Challenge!

    1. See, I'd much rather be addicted to salt than sugar! But, I suppose they are equally as bad since you have the risk of high blood pressure with too much salt vs. the risk of diabetes with too much sugar!
